Company C
Company C of the 5th New York began in June of 1996 with two members. The goal of these two men was to present to the public an authentic impression of the Civil War Zouave, a sight long missing from the local reenacting scene. Entering our fourteenth year, the unit maintains a roster of over twenty-five, continues to grow and strives to maintain a high standard of authenticity in our portrayal of the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry.
Company C is a California non-profit corporation and a Federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit educational corporation, so all donations are tax deductible.
Our goals as Civil War Living Historians include:
Education. Teaching the public that Blue and Grey are not the only colors worn by the fighting men of the Civil War. Explaining in an understandable way the role played by the Civil War Zouave.
Safety. Understanding that this is a hobby, we all have real lives we want to get back to at some point. We maintain strict safety requirements of all our members so that our men and the men on the field with us return home safely.
Fun. The most important part for the morale of all concerned. We engage in period activities and living history for the enjoyment of the public as well as the men.
We wear the Zouave uniform of the Fifth New York as it appeared in its' second and third issue. Our impression is true to the appearance of the 5th New York circa 1862. Company C is constantly striving to learn and improve and as such we require adherence to our unit standards in uniforms, equipment, drill and attitude.
We annually elect both field and corporate officers. Our current corporate officers are listed below. Please feel free to contact any officer with any questions or comments.
